If you have worn glasses or contact lenses, you know how cumbersome these items can be. For many, wavefront lasik can mean better vision, and therefore, a better quality of life. Wavefront offers a high rate or success and the end of cumbersome glasses for many. The first step to finding out if wavefront or custom lasik is right for you.

The process begins with a full review of your eyes. The outcome is a 3 dimension map of your eye that tells the surgeon how you process light. This information is valuable to understand if you are a good candidate of wavefront. If you are a valid candidate, there is a good chance of receiving 20/20 vision, according to the results of past patients.

One factor that is taken into account is the strength and integrity of the cornea. If the cornea is to thin, it may not be able to accept the changes than need to be made by the wavefront laser. Another factor that can keep someone from being a wavefront custom lasik candidate is the severity of the vision disorder. Wavefront is typically only for those with mild to moderate vision issues.

If cost is a concern, wavefront will run about double the cost of traditional lasik. As a rule of thumb, wavefront or custom lasik will cost about $3,000 (USD). The reason for the high cost has a bit to do with the planning involved, including the 3 dimension map of the eye to determine how light is processed.

Clearly, the results of wavefront lasik are much better than those achieved by traditional lasik. Although the costs are high, wavefront custom lasik will provide a high success rate and the chance to never to wear glasses again. If you are a candidate, you may be on your way to achieving improved vision.

Wavefront custom lasik has improved vision for many patients pursuing eye surgery. Wavefront lasik, which is also known as custom lasik, uses advanced multidimensional measurements of how a patient’s eye processes light and images. As a result of this advanced measurement, a customized map of the eye can be created, and therefore, a surgical plan for achieving the best results can be determined. In this way, wavefront lasik can achieve a better outcome for improved vision, versus standard lasik for some patients.

Custom or wavefront lasik requires a qualification process prior to the start of the eye surgery. In particular, the FDA has determined a set of criteria that must be met in order to be considered for wavefront custom lasik. This form of lasik is typically best suited for candidates with moderate or mild forms of astigmatism or myopia. Patients with more severe vision problems may not be suited for wavefront.

As a result of the mapping process of the eye, the customized plan can be pursued to address problems in the way the eye currently processes images. Patients of wavefront lasik will have their cornea reshaped by a laser to correct the current problems with processing the light that enters the eye. For this reason, part of the review process for wavefront lasik will ensure that the cornea is thick enough to accept this reshaping of the cornea to improve vision.

In addition to the improved and custom vision correction possible for some patients with wavefront lasik, the definition and quality of the images that the patients see may also be of a higher quality, when compared to traditional lasik. In particular, some studies have reported improved contrast with wavefront custom lasik. In addition, some of the traditional complaints about traditional lasik, such as seeing halos and a lack of vision at night, do not seem to be as prominent with wavefront custom lasik surgery.  In addition, additional studies have shown that patients may achieve greater vision for distant objects.

If you are considering wavefront custom lasik, the first step may be to talk about your options with a qualified surgeon. An in-depth review of your symptoms, cornea depth, and resulting 3-D map of your eye should determine if you are a suitable candidate for wavefront custom lasik. Clearly, the benefits of having this type of lasik done have helped many to achieve greater vision, and therefore, a higher quality of life.
